Visiting the Observatory is set at the Janta Manta Observatory in Jaipur, India, where the memory of being attacked by a monkey in the mountains before arriving at the observatory merges with the journey ahead.

Samrat and Jai Prakash are two of my favourite instruments among the others. Samrat Yantra, literally meaning “King of Instruments”, is a huge 90-foot-tall sundial with a right-angled wall in the middle that can be stepped up to serve as a gnomon, allowing the time to be read off by the shadows on the quadrants on either side. Jai Prakash’s visual representation of the sun’s motion makes it an ideal instrument for demonstrating the “Spherical Theory”. Under the intense tropical sunlight, these instruments manifest pure geometric beauty and strong interplays of light and shadow.

The timekeeping instrument made otherwise invisible time visible, and I am about to ascend, commencing my journey of pursuit.
